Map
On October 9, we will begin our computerized Measures of Academic Progress (Map) testing. This will be for grades 2-6 in the elementary. This system is new to us, a quite unique program that customizes the test to the student's achievement level while he/she is administered the test. MAP offers efficiency, flexibility and most important, improved measure of precision, which is the key component of any comprehensive assessment program.
Teachers can use Measures of Academic Progress testing to:
Place new students in the appropriate course or instructional setting
Focus instruction for new students
Monitor growth in student achievement over time
Determine student proficiency related to the district's graduation standards
Screen students for Title I eligibility, special education services, and gifted programs
In addition to improving assessment decisions, MAP can:
Improve the testing experience for students and teachers
Enable teachers to give tests whenever they're needed
Provide immediate feedback
Provide parents with better information about their child's growth in achievement
Decrease testing time
Increase test security
We are optimistic about the possibilities of our new "MAP" testing. We will no longer be taking the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills with our use of MAP. Testing will occur again in the spring to measure the academic progress of individual students over the school year.
If you have any questions about our testing program, please call the Elementary Office at 839-6181.
Thank you.
